The artwork is arriving

This is really shaping up to be one big and exciting show.  We have 250 artists and counting, the largest turnout since the show was started 4 years ago.

It’s only the first day and the work that is being dropped off is looking spectacular. Such a wonderful variety of young and old artists, strange and beautiful stuff.  So far, artists are coming from as far south as Georgia, as north as Wisconsin, as west as LA.  We even have an artist from Austria.

People seem to be enjoying what manifests when you apply the principles of gifting, radical self-expression, participation, radical inclusion, decommodification, immediacy and communal effort.

What is The Next Wave?

4 years ago, a handful of artists and volunteers in Elgin got together and began an experiment. Our goal was to turn the traditional art show on it’s head by creating a space that blurred cultural & economic lines and provided artists of all means & abilities to freely display their work.

We noticed that artists and performers were being excluded from participating in art shows based on economic or aesthetic rules set-up by a cloistered minority. What would happen if we removed all those barriers and allowed something spontaneous to happen?
The result was a very successful event called The Next Wave Art Salon and it’s based upon the following simple rules: Have no exclusivity, jury, fees or censorship, and award artists with cash.

This year’s show will take place on Friday September 6th from 6 -10 p.m. and Saturday September 7th from 4-10 p.m. at 166 Symphony Way in downtown Elgin IL, just one block east of The Centre of Elgin, behind Danny’s Pizza.

We’ll have painters, sculptors, knitters, photographers, fire performers, actors, filmmakers, writers, and dancers all under one gigantic roof, showing their stuff and doing their thing.

The event is free.  Tell your friends.

When is it?

Friday September 6th, 2013 from 6pm-10pm
Saturday September 7th, 2013 from 4pm-10pm.

Located at:

The Haight
166 Symphony Way
Elgin, IL

A magical space-time invite

Listen,  I want to tell you about a place so interesting, so magical, it can only appear for two days a year before it is shut down again by the space-time police. That’s right, it’s so amazing the laws of space and time are actually broken by the law itself to stop it from happening.  Things happen there that can’t happen elsewhere.  Indescribable, unknowable and delightful things.  I want to tell you more about it but I actually can’t because it’s unknowable and indescribable. Sound’s exciting.

You know what else?  We’ve gone and put your name on the secret guest list, meaning you will be welcomed inside this mystical vortex to participate and witness all manner of cool things.  And before you ask me: Yes, there will probably be unicorns.  All you have to do is show up.

When is it apparating?

Friday September 6th, from 6pm-10pm
Saturday September 7th, from 4pm-10pm

Where?

The Haight (same location as previous years)
166 Symphony Way
Elgin, IL

What happens if you show up?

You will see what creative people can do with their powers of determination.  Listen to the crooning and plucking of youth, and witness the bold movements of free spirits.  You will probably have magical and intimate conversations about the nature of art, life, the universe and everything.  Someone will probably use the words “groovy” and “mathematical” in the same sentence.   All completely out of ear-shot of the invisible surveillance drones.

I wish I could tell you more but really the Space-Time Agency is listening to everything we say.  All I can say is most people have a really good time.  So, you should come.

Submissions are Open!

The salon is happening!  These are two nights you don’t want to miss.  Tell your friends and spread the word! Come for the art and conversation with painters, sculptors, knitters, photographers, fire performers, filmmakers, musicians, and dancers all under one roof for 2 nights only.

Sign up here while there is still space left.
