My work focuses on subconscious automatic painting. The paintings create themselves and after finishing one, I often feel as though I’ve come out of a trance. The work is intentionally deprived of subject matter and my subconscious is in complete control of the composition. I believe the work is a product of my emotional angst in the face of an existential crisis. The earliest I can remember experiencing this thought pattern was in my youth. I was often a very despondent child and I remember taking great pleasure in trying to “see “actions in surfaces that weren’t really there. I used to stare intently at stucco and other painted surfaces and imagine a whole lifetime of stories emerging from the abstract surfaces.
